Not much cooking for the past few weeks due to my marriage super busy. Now when everything was over, cooking time is back. As part of the marriage tradition, my new in-law gave me a huge chunk of siu-yok (roast pork). BKT was never a to-die-for meal for me until I discovered how good is it when you go with the raw garlic. Ya ya.. i know, BKT has been served with raw garlic all the while. I don’t have a habit to eat raw garlic when eating meal so BKT to me is just “herbal pork soup”.. no kick.. no fire.. Yesterday was my birthday and finally I breached the big 3!.. damn I suddenly feel old. We went to Jarrod & Rawlins, a restaurant specialize in pork! Price is a lil’ bit more expensive than the usual western fares, but I feel is kinda okay considering you get to eat pork cooking which is rather limited in my country.
From the menu, you get to choose a varieties of main course or you can opt for the grill with a wide selection of meat of your choice. I ordered a plain pork burger at RM20 with each top up at RM4. I added bacons and I always saw that pork burger goes with blue cheese hence I added that as well. Oh my.. what a big mistake. Let me warn you, blue cheese is not for everyone. Then we ordered some varieties of pork sausages and pork chop from the meat counter for grilling. It was very nice as you can really taste some charcoal burnt infused in the meat.
Overall the bill came to about RM80++ for the 2 of us with drinks and 10% tax. Definitely deserve a revisit.
Roasted pork belly (or ’suiyok’) to me is consider to king of all meat, the most sinful and also is my ultimate favorite. I have traveled all over Klang valley to find all the best ’suiyok’ and at one time, I ate ’suiyok’ rice almost everyday. Having read all the blog lately that suggested home-made version and how easy it was, I decided to give it a try. Continue reading ‘Home-made Roasted Pork Belly’
It was weekend and I decided to make something complicated and special. Initially, I wanted to make those Hainanese chops but somehow I couldn’t get the sauce to taste right. So, I converted it into Oriental-style sauce for my pork chop and served with a baked mashed potato. Continue reading ‘Oriental Pork Chop’
