Being born into a modern world and has great interest in IT, Qigong was really not those hobbies that I see myself getting into. It all started on February 2008 when my gf developed a condition call herniation disc or commonly known as Slippeddisc. It changes our way of life and our thinking since then.
According to modern medical science, there is no natural cure other than surgery but because the problem lies in the spinal cord and your nerve, it is a rather scary surgery. We did a lot of research, consult orthopedic specialist and decided to opt for physiotherapy rather than surgery. It didn’t turn out too well, the condition stabilized but still doesn’t show good progress. The physiotherapist although is a westerner practicing western medication, believes in eastern treatment such as qigong and those wild wild stuffs like Craniosacral therapy which he himself claim is a practitioner. He advised us to take up qigong.
We then set out to search for a qigong master. We came across a few and finally settle ourselves with one master strongly recommended by a friend. We witnessed some unexplainable phenomena. My gf went for a few treatments, we started to know some of the healers in the center, started to talk more about qigong and they recommended us to join their training course which is good to preserve our health. Since this doesn’t cost RM8,000 (the first master we approached), but measly RM30!! We signed up so that I can witness myself the power of qigong.
So, this is how it all started. And I have been practicing qigong for almost 2 months now. The group is rather big with around 50 peoples mostly in their 40s to 60s while we are the youngest at late 20s. The training consists of 2 sessions, the free-flow which is the more interesting part and the second part, cultivating qi.
During free-flow, everyone stand at a spot, close our eyes, lose our muscle and relax. Our body will start to move slowly by a small mysterious hidden force and eventually develop into a strong force all over your body. You will do all kind of movement automatically like spinning your head, shaking your hand, twisting your torso, stepping your feet and etc. Everyone will have their own movement style and it took me a few days before I can start moving.
I still cannot explain why and how my body was able to move on its own. Many of them in the group has been practicing for more than 10 years. While most of them started to practice when they face with a health issue in their mid life, for me, although I don’t have any issue with health (for now), I find it fascinating and because of my gf condition, we decided to stick on with the training. Hopefully one day I can shoot qi ball from my hand like Ryu in StreetFighter….![]()
