We passed by this rather new Japanese restaurant at 1U a lot of times but have yet to try it simply because I don’t like Japanese food. But my wife love sushi! And since I haven’t really give her a surprise since our marriage half a year ago (the last surprise was 1 year ago when I proposed at Mizu, a Japanese restaurant of course), I planned for a bigger one this time.
While the last time I was armed with a 0.6 carat diamond ring in my pocket, this time round I armed myself with a new Iphone 3G which my wife dream about it every night since Apple started selling Iphone many years ago.

I think it is a custom that if I want to please my wife, I have to bring her to a Japanese restaurant. So Sushi Zanmai is a natural choice. I like to visit restaurant that has a pretty menu with lots of pictures. It makes deciding what to order so much easier. They have a pretty interesting drink selection like ice blended green tea.

The environment of the restaurant is pretty okay, better than those Sushi King or Genki but not as good as those dedicated Japanese fine dining. We were originally being seated at those standalone tables because tables at the conveyor belt were fully occupied. But then we requested a change to be seated at the conveyor belt after we saw a couple was about to leave… and it was a good decision because…

Because we were now seated next to conveyor belt, we get to take sushi plate from the moving belt. We took 2 plates from it without realizing that there was this promotion whereby you get a RM20 voucher if the plate you took contains a hidden watermark. So, a waitress came by while we are eating and scan our plates. We took 2 and OMG!!! both of it contained the mark! How lucky because I seen tables around us that took more than 5 plates and gotten none… what a surprise setting the stage for a surprising day!

Some salmon sushi plate my wife took. I didn’t taste it but feedback from my wife is pretty good.

We also ordered my favorite Deepfry Soft-shell crab which tasted okay. I had eaten better one elsewhere.

And my favorite Tepanyaki Grilled Cod fish which is nice… much better than the crappy one I had at Tenji, SohoKL.

Our last dish is a rice bowl with some prawn fritters. It looks tasty in the menu, but the real thing is pretty disappointing. Tasted so so only…

After we feed our hungry stomach, is time for the surprise of the day. I finally allowed my wife to unwrap the present. I gave her the present earlier but I forbid her from opening it till the end of the dinner in order to tease her.

We used the RM40 voucher we got to pay the bill. So we only pay RM12 for all the food we had on that day! This is a more affordable Japanese food, slightly higher than Sushi King. I also secretly booked 2 tickets for the movie Angels & Demons because my wife like Tom Hanks… (and a hotel room too… hahaha.. jk!)
