01FebPasta Zanmai, 1Utama - Italian or Japanese?

A Japanese takes on Italian cusine? Pasta Zanmai in 1Utama is a spin-of from the popular Sushi Zanmai located in 1Utama too. Since I’m not a big fan of sushi but my wife loves it, I guess Pasta Zanmai is a good compromise. I have been to Sushi Zanmai once and find it quite interesting compare to other sushi restaurant, so I believe Pasta Zanmai should not dissapoint me.

Pasta Zanmai actually has a retail at the front of the shop selling Japanese stuffs and the restaurant is at the back occupying half of the shop. Therefore the space and seating capacity is kinda limited.

However the decoration inside the restaurant is as what you would expect from any Japanese restaurant, cozy and comfy.

And typically Japenese, superb service from the waitress.

The menu was presented to us and my first impression was “wow.. what a beautiful menu!”. Looking at all those beautifully taken pictures of the food make you wanna try them all. There are a wide range of pasta varieties for you to choose from and you have soup-based pasta too which you don’t get it from a normal Italian restaurant.

We placed our orders and patiently awaiting our food to arrive.

My wife ordered green tea comes in a nice teapot. Judging from the look you should know it won’t be free green tea like what you usually get.

I ordered some Chocolate drink. It looks great but taste is just so so, cannot be compared to some of those Coffee/Chocolate Specialty restaurant. It also has a mild taste of Japanese tea taste in it. Kind of weird…

For starters, we ordered fried calamari. Not bad and well seasoned.

My wife ordered a soup-based pasta, the Clams Soup Pasta. The soup is hot and the taste is very nice. Clams is fresh and you can actually taste the sweetness of the clams. While the portion and ingredients are no where little, but I would expect a slightly more stuffs in the soup for something almost RM30.

I ordered some rice dish with Crispy Chicken fried with Egg. Is okay but not great. Should have stick to pasta in a pasta restaurant…

Overall a good dining experience. The price is on the high side around RM35++ per pax including tax for a typical meal. They have so much nice looking and cool varieties of pasta which you won’t find it elsewhere.. I want to try more of them.. of cuz whenever wallet permits..:P
