17MarYummy Roast Pork and Hainanese Chicken Rice at Hong Seng, PJ

A good hainanese chicken rice must have great garlic chili sauce, tasty rice and wonderful chicken/roast pork/bbq pork to make a heavenly eating and aftermath experience. I have been eating at this particular hainanese chicken rice shop WEEKLY!!! for the past 2 years because this got to be one of the best all rounder in PJ area.

I like the aftermath garlic aroma lingering around your breath.. yeah yeah, I know is disgusting if you are the receiving end. But to me, the garlic chili is what this dish is all about. I have sample a lot of chicken rice shop around PJ and while some of them was really good in a particular area, but none of them give you a complete package till I found this shop at Hong Seng.

Why is it good?

Firstly, the garlic chili is so far the best I tasted. Solid on ingredient. This alone already won 50%.

Then the rice is extremely tasty, not those “butter” type which I hate, not too blant, not too oily and very fragrance where you can just eat a few bowls on its own.

Among the meats, their roast pork is highly recommended. While it is not as good as the one near Pudu (behind Time Square) which to me is the best of the best, this easily rank a good 3rd. And best of all, you don’t have to jam all the way to Pudu and queue up that extremely crowded stall to get your weekly dose.

Their roast chicken deserve a recommendation too. What I like about them is they tend to roast it a bit more than the rest, therefore achieving a mild burnt flavor and crispy skin.

Their BBQ pork (”charsiew”) is just average which I don’t order usually. You can find the best of the best BBQ pork around Aman Suria, PJ.

While not so important, their soup is surprisingly quite tasty for something free. What a bonus!

I usually order 1 or 2 stripes of roast pork all by myself whenever I patron them. The seller used to asked me every time am I eating alone or with a bunch. By my 4th visit with the same order, they don’t ask anymore…:D

The shop is located at Section 17, there is also a morning wet market facing it.
