I have heard about this stall located below the stretch of flat in Section 17 PJ long ago and I decided to pay my first visit last weekend. This stall is famous for their steamed chicken with Koay Teow noodle soup but you can also have a choice for fish paste or pork to go with your noodle. I don’t particular craze for this type of food but a recent conversation with my wife which is extremely crazy for Penang style Koay Teow soup, made me recall this stall.
The stall front doesn’t look that fantastic and is pretty small too. Once you step inside, you will be shocked to see the number of patrons sitting waiting for their bowl of noodle. The business is insanely good till they have to use a number system (like the popular Pan Mee in SS3). I actually came on last Saturday around 8.30am and after I saw the number of bowls pile up waiting in a queue, I asked how long I have to wait. They replied (politely) 1 hour plus! So I left and came back the next morning around 11am to avoid the morning crowd. This time the crowd is more manageable and the wait time is 20min.

Being first timer, we wasn’t sure how to order. But the stall helper is very accommodating and friendly despite being so busy. I was actually surprised by their “5-star service” attitude because usually popular and busy restaurant tend to be cocky with the leave-if-you-unhappy attitude.
The wait wasn’t long and our food arrived. The steamed chicken is of the “village-breed” type with chewy meat. The Koay Teow is smooth and silky and the soup is quite nice. Maybe I’m used to Ipoh style Koay Teow soup which use prawn to season the soup, I find the soup over here pepper-ish. According to my wife which is from Penang, this is the style of Penang.

I prefer to start my day with a glass or two of coffee but usually have to endure lousy food. Is hard to find 1 stall that serve good food and also good coffee. The white coffee here is actually quite nice for KL standards. I would rate it second to the popular Sun Yin Loong in KL.

Overall, I’m not too sure why the insane crowd, the food is good but not till the extend of 1hr wait time. The white coffee is great, the service is friendly, and parking is horrendous as usual.
The stall is located below the flats along Jalan 17/1a in Section 17 PJ, parallel to Jalan Universiti.
