I’m feeling a bit guilty here because I have started this blog for almost 2 years but I have yet blog about my mum’s stall which without a doubt, serve the best YTF I ever eaten!! The business is at Ipoh nearby the Kalsom road and it has been in business for more than 20 years, same food, same place, same shop and of cuz the same cook! Business is good, full house and sold out before noon almost on the daily basis.
The shop isn’t very big, it only has about 13 tables with a seating capacity of 80 pax total. My mum used to just own a stall there but then we taken over the entire shop when the owner decided to retire some 10 years ago after which my dad and auntie join in to man the drink counter.

Unlike KL style YTF that goes without the mee or with the “cheong fun”, in Ipoh, we go with normal mee. There are some stalls in KL that serve normal mee, but the preparation of it is terrible because they only focus on the YTF items. Check out the accompany mee at my mum’s stall.. it is so good that you can just eat it on its own.

The above one is my favorite and customized by me with loads of lards, garlic and pork oil! Is good to be the “prince” of the business as I can just freely scoop as many lards as I want. For the more healthier person like my wife (below), she opt out the lard and oil… yucks… And check out the “tauge” in Ipoh, is all fatty and juicy compare to the skinny one in KL.

Now comes the star of the meal, the YTF items. All the items are homemade, and if you think those Ampang, Ipoh road and etc etc in KL is good, this will just blow them away.

The only downside of my mum’s stall is that it lacks deepfried item which is also my favorite. Most of the items are prepare in soup.

The bestest item has to be the fried eggplant. I notice many people in KL like to order this item every time they eat YTF and even dimsum. Is my favorite too and I have tried numerous stalls, from big chain stall to popular long queue small stall to many dimsum outlet in KL, none of them come close to the one from my mum’s stall… not even half as good I’m serious! Do come early if you wanna eat the eggplant as this item usually the first to sold out.

And since it is Ipoh, the price is cheap. Unlike KL which charge RM0.90~ per item, my mum’s is about RM0.40~ per item. Most customer come in order about 5 items and a mee and the bill will not even exceed RM3. According to my mum, majority of the customers are loyal fans and patron them weekly for the last 20 years. Some more crazy, they come every day for many years. While some was passed down from generations, first was dad mum and kids, 15 years later, the dad mum was “away” and the then kids now comes with wife and their own kids…

Ipoh also famous for great coffee. Coffee in KL is horrible, they put little milk and add in sugar to cut down cost. Besides great food in my mum’s shop, the drink section is just as good.

Check out my favorite, a glass of foamy and smooth teh ais…

If you pass by Ipoh, you got to try it… Do let me know if you need exact direction to go.. I dunno how long more my parents will continue with the business as all my siblings now are grown up even my youngest sis… so catch it while it is still here..![]()

I totally agree that the fried eggplant is the best. I will never miss to order it …
. Another item that i highly recommended will be the “Fish ball”. The fish ball is really “zhan choi sak liu”…So don’t missed it.
wah! i love love egg plant

hey u should inherit the biz! dont let the biz die off!
aiyoyo.. map ar… i dunno where to start since ipoh don’t have much lanmark for easy identification…
the best is to ask for direction to go to Jalan Yang Kalsom which is also known as the “road of banks” where u can find all brand of banks in that 1 street. my mum shop is next to that road.. basically 2min walk from the big Maybank there….
xin, actually i hav giving that a thought lol…
draw from super kinta or oveseas restaurant or sin chiew where people have more deep impression one lo
Goto maps.google.com & search for “Super Kinta” & “Jalan Yang Kalsom”. They’re quite near to each other.
I’m one of the “fortunate” ones to hv tried the customized version (but not as oily as the above) & I must say it’s good. Can’t take too much though for obvious reasons.
thanks eric for the map. i included in the post already.
Ayoyo, Calvin…the big Jln Yg Kalsom Maybank relocated already. But with all other banks there, still make our mom’s stall easily searchable.
Yeah, thumbs up to mom’s special eggplant. Another all-time favouite is the deep-fried stuffed-bittergourd. With only these two items served with dry-style hor-fun, my meal is complete.
Hi Calvin,
. When I drop by, I will take some picture for you too…
As usual, Ipoh food is still the best….
Jy, thanks for “bonk chang”.. kkeke
Wow good advert for your mum …mind to do one for my dad’s Nga Choi Kai stall at Restaurant Central? Just opposite the new Foh San.
